Endless Summer

Outfit Details:
1970s white embroidered peasant dress: pile sale ($5)

Pretty sure I've posted this dress on this blog before....and I've even blogged about this beach before but you know what? I don't care! This blog is more of a photo journal that chronicles what I do with my time and how I dress rather than some out of touch "aspirational" fashion blog that only features girls constantly wearing new or gifted clothing (...do bloggers not re-wear their duds ever?) from designer X,Y, and Z. I think that format is really boring but maybe that's just me.

Anyway, here are a few shots from an afternoon at my favorite beach in Laguna. A little off the beaten path, I like this beach because it's less packed, has remnants from an old 1920s swimming pool on the beach, and it has a tower on it. Talk about picturesque. Until convinced otherwise, Laguna Beach has, by far, the best beaches in Southern California bar none.  Clear, deep turquoise water, rugged cliffs bursting with flowering succulents, jagged hillsides studded with crystals...no beach can compare.

After the beach we ate at The Stand which is a small vegan health food joint off of Thalia. I was wondering what people would think to be quintessentially California-style food and I think it would probably be "health food". People really do love their avocados, quinoa, bean sprouts, tofu, whole grain, macrobiotic, gluten free, organic, locally sourced, farm raised, raw etc. etc. etc.  diets over here. Well, that and Mexican food. And In-N-out.

PS
Tonight my pals from high school, Young The Giant, played the MTV VMAs. So crazy. I think I also heard their song being used as The Survivor theme song for this season?? Anyway,  pretty neat stuff. Congratulations guys :)

  5. These are lovely photos Ashley. I wear the same clothes in a row & blog about them. I like to show how I remix things, which I think is more interesting ...

  10. I love that dress. And I love that you repost outfits, because it makes you a normal person. You're not out to impress us. You're not so arrogant that you would rather die than be seen in the same outfit twice. Those girls are fake.

Plus, recognizing outfits or jewelry in outfit posts of my favorite bloggers makes me happy because it makes me feel like I'm a friend of yours in real life!! Like, "oh hey Ash, that's my favorite dress of yours!" Haha! Okay, I'm a dork.

And yes, I love that CA is recognized for its health food. My city (KC) is recognized for its BBQ, while absolutely delicious, is slightly less glamorous. ;)

  11. I love Laguna! It's funny how much these pictures resemble some Cote D'azur town- so gorgeous. I really miss the ocean. I was thinking yesterday how this summer I haven't even been to the beach except when I was in France. I miss that salty sea air and the sand between my toes.

Anyway, I love the format of your blog, and it's definitely a "role model" blog for my own. It's so much more interesting to me than a blogger just wearing a bunch of new stuff all the time.

Also, really cool about your friends band! That's awesome.

  12. I think it can be fun to see people wearing new outfits all the time but it's certainly not how I live my life. :) I think one of the most satisfying things is to love a clothing item so much that it gets worn out.

That sandwich looks really, really good.

  15. You're the reason I got into Young The Giant earlier this year, their music makes me nostalgic for Southern California (as do your blog photos!).

It amazes me when bloggers post outfit pictures daily and they never repeat an outfit! I wear thrifted and vintage fashion and have no shame in repeating an outfit, especially if worn in a different season. If I love a dress why would I only wear it once??

  16. i really hate it when it's like you NEVER see bloggers rewearing things...it's always new stuff... anyway, i like how you post. the photos are great and i can really see what you do with your time and i dig it! don't change a thing.

also, as a side note...your hair is beautiful! and that food looks so yummmy right now.

  19. Sorry I totally couldn't read past your first paragraph without commenting: that drives me insane. Like, I cannot possibly always have new clothes/shoes/accessories, and I don't really have time to shop or do the blogger-gifty-sponsor thing and people who do I'm always like...but...WHAT? Like if they have a shop thats cool (like you) and I'm totally jealous that I don't have the time to do that yet...but when EVERY item is c/o some store I'm like...well, I have to buy my clothes so I can't be stylish and in new things every minute. I could go on but I've had some wine and I can't make the thoughts come out right.

    Bah.

Love your shots of California. Makes me want to go west.
