Halloween Costumes etc.

Happy Halloween! This was my costume for an Emerica/ Toy Machine skate demo that I went to on Saturday. If you get what my costume is without me having to explain what I am...hooray! 10 cool points for you.

If you didn't get that I am dressed as a Sun Fearing Asian Woman then you probably live in an area that doesn't have too many 50+ Asian women walking around.

Anyway, I'm not really one for doing "cute" Halloween costumes or for buying Halloween costumes at the store. Not my steez. To illustrate this point, here are my costumes from the past two years...

Prince, 2010.

Chola 2008 and 2009 (these photos are from 2009).

My only regret is that I didn't take a photo of Grant on Saturday! He was a guy from Top Gun and found the best vintage flight suit for $5. He was too busy skating the demo and I was too busy gabbing with Deanna. Oh welp!

  1. I knew EXACTLY what you were the second I opened this post LOL. When I was in the Philippines I remember thinking it was so odd that American women want to soak up sun and use self tanner and Asian women use skin lightening cream and avoid the sun like the plague.
PS Your Prince costume is freaking DEAD ON!

  5. ahahaha fun costume. my guess was close- I was thinking along the lines of someone who is allergic to the sun, but then I figured the getup had to indicate something, and who else wears cat jumpers and loafers? a hipster with a sun allergy, or a sun-concious old lady.

  6. Hahahaha, oh my gosh I actually burst out laughing when I saw this. the mask, the umbrella, the 99 ranch plastic bag, SPOT on. one of my coworkers at Trader Joe's really wants to dress up like this on Monday, but as the clientele at our store is 90% asian he fears there'd be a negative response. I love this costume and your past ones and how you've put thought into them rather than being a slutty-whatever as everyone seems to do these days. this made my night!

  7. I love these costumes haha ^^ you look great as Prince, very well done!
And I'm afraid to say that I didn't get what your 2011 costume was, because yeah, we haven't so much 50+ sun fearing asian women in this area :)
    Life is a romantic poem

  8. Hahaha! That is such a funny costume. Ever so slightly offensive maybe? Although you fit in so well with the old Asian lady community that nobody might notice it's a costume ;)

  19. Haha I didn't realise it was *actually* your Halloween costume and was thinking, 'Wow your style is totally morphing into old-Asian-lady-territory... I guess you pull it off?'
That is SO hilarious, I just picture this exact Filipino lady who would wear exactly that, and definitely the visor! Great blog, and GREAT Prince outfit! What a clever idea x

  25. Haha, I knew exactly what you were even after just seeing the thumbnail! But I suppose I do currently live in Asia. The white socks that covers the ankles and the turtleneck to protect the neck...such good details! :]
