Today was the first day that I ventured outside since coming down with a horrendous cold/ flu hybrid of sorts. Since it was such a nice day (80 degrees what, what!) Grant and I decided to head seaside and walk around Balboa which is a small island off of Newport Beach seemingly solely populated by dogs and people over 55 years of age wearing Chicos and Cold Water Creek gear, if that paints a picture for you.

I've noticed that I've been dressing more tomboy lately. I think this happens every Fall and Winter. As the temps drop, the pants go on.  Speaking of pants going on, I've noticed that a lot of fashion bloggers that I read literally never wear pants. Ever. It's all dresses and skirts which is cool, don't get me wrong since I, too, love a good dress BUT I also loves me a good pair of pants! Maybe it's a California thing?  ~California Casual~?

Anyway, here are a few more shots that I took today...

The great banana stand rivalry of Balboa Island! A point of pride regarding where I live (since a lot of people bash on Orange County) is the fact that Arrested Development was set in Orange County, Newport Beach to be exact. While the Bluth Banana Stand is pure fiction it is definitely based on these real banana stands which are pretty much next to each other. I think Sugar & Spice is the OG stand, though. Sorry Dad's!

  3. This is perfect.

Also, I know what you mean about bloggers not wearing pants. I think seeing a lady in trousers is refreshing!

  6. Yes, I'm certainly guilty of not wearing enough pants on the blog. I love the boyish look. Cycling around Brooklyn is certainly easier with pants. Love the bolo!

  7. Sorry we missed each other this weekend! It was pretty packed on my end too. I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. I'd love to hang when you guys are on your trip, so keep in touch :)

Totally hungout on Balboa Island on Wednesday. The family I was with swear by dad's tho. We would never set foot in sugar and spice. (Maybe we can't be friends).

Also...I swear I was thinking of buying that exact bolo on etsy last week, but went for this bad boy instead http://www.etsy.com/transaction/63353799. That one looks adorable, a giant bull head can be a little menacing.

  8. Is it sad that I'm not really sure what a banana stand is?

  10. @ Kallie: Not sad at all! A banana stand, or should I say frozen banana stand, sells frozen bananas dipped in chocolate along with other sweet treats. It's a popular Southern California beach dessert :)

  11. I'm definitely one of those girls who rarely wears pants... mainly because I don't think they look good on me! It's been about 5 years since I've worn them regularly, even in the 0 degree weather we get here in Chicago (I wear wool tights, tall boots, long coats).

Oddly enough I never heard of the banana stands when I lived in L.A., they look tasty!

  13. I'll never tire of your quirky tomboy style, Ash. :) You always look fabulous and adorable. I have also noticed very few bloggers wear pants in their outfit shots! I always notice when they do because it's like seeing a full moon. Ha!

And SoCal really DOES have frozen banana stands?! I thought that was just a made-up thing for AD! Awesome. Sauce.

  15. I like me some pants too, though I wear them more in real life than in blog land. Probably cos I only own two pairs of pants at the moment vs. about 15 dresses!
